Hoboken Christian Church
At the Hoboken Gospel Chapel We Believe…
In the Holy Christian Bible (both Old & New Testaments) as the Divine inspired inerrant Word of God, the revelation of His mind and will to man, our infallible, all sufficient guide for salvation and for Christian life (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
In one God, the Creator of all, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
In the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, that He is true God and true man begotten of the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, and that He has a perfect and sinless humanity (John 1:1; Philippians 2:6; Matthew 1-23-25; 1 John 3:5).
In the total depravity of the nature of man through his fall in the Garden of Eden, and the absolute inability of man to save himself from eternal punishment by his own works (Genesis 3; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:8-9).
In the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved (1Thess. 4:17); and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost (Rev. 20:11-15).
In the finished work of Christ on the Cross of Calvary, through which sacrifice Christ has effected complete and eternal redemption, God setting His seal of approval on the work of Christ by raising Him from among the dead, enthroned Him at His own right hand in Heaven and that He is the Head of the Church, the Lord of the individual, the High Priest over the House of God and Advocate in the family of God.
In the immediate and eternal salvation of every person who truly believes on Christ and by faith rests on His finished work as the only righteous ground on which a Holy God can forgive his sins.
That all who by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ as savior are born again of the Holy Spirit, indwelt by the Holy Spirit and by the Holy Spirit baptized into the body of Christ, the Church, of which He is the risen and ascended Head (1Corinthians 12:12-14; Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18).
That the early Church met together and “continued steadfastly in the Apostles doctrine and fellowship and in breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:42). God’s pattern for the Church today.
In the personal, imminent, and premillennial coming of the Lord to the air to Rapture (catch up) the Church (1Thess. 4:13-17), and In the revelation of Christ in glory at His Second Advent to the earth to establish His kingdom on earth and to reign in righteousness (2Thess. 1:6-10; Phil. 2:9-11).
Further, we ARE NOT Pentecostal, Charismatic or prosperity gospel in our beliefs, worship and teaching. We do believe the Holy Spirit gives gifts to all believers for the edifying of the Body but trust that the sign gifts such as speaking in tongues, miracles, faith healing & new revelation through prophesy have ceased being no longer necessary for the establishment of the Apostles, the early church and the completed canon of scripture.
We thank God everyday that He does heal in answer to prayer and does exercise His power in amazing ways in our lives.
More about us....
Are you new to the area?
Are you looking for a church that loves God and His Word above all? When you visit us you will find a loving, friendly church that seeks to exalt the Father, Son and Holy Spirit proclaimed in the Christian Holy Bible.
We are of one mind in our love for the Lord Jesus Christ, each other and His Holy Word.
Philippians 2:2 Fulfill ye my joy, that you be like minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
Our simple traditional worship seeks to be faithful to New Testament Church patterns and teachings including: salvation by faith in Jesus Christ alone through His Substitutionary, redemptive work on the cross and His resurrection from the dead, the weekly Breaking of Bread (Lord's Supper), identifying Publicly with Christ through water baptism by immersion, worshiping God in Spirit and in Truth, Gospel messages, and expositional Bible teaching.
When the local church faithfully preaches the Gospel, repentant broken sinners who have reached an end of themselves finally cry out to God to deliver them from their lost estate. For the first time they understand that only God can forgive their sins and there is nothing they can do in themselves to earn salvation. By receiving Christ as Lord and Savior through faith alone in all that He is and all that He has done the irrevocable gift of forgiveness and reconciliation becomes effectual for that person.
Suddenly, where there was only darkness now there is light. Where there was judgment and wrath now there is peace and joy. Where there was death and eternal punishment now there is only eternal life and forgiveness. At that exact moment a person truly trusts in the Lord Jesus Christ he or she is born again spiritually and truly enters the church universal which is the Body of Christ. When the local church teaches the complete truth of the Holy Scriptures Christians grow spiritually and begin to learn that obedience to God’s Holy Word leads to great blessings in this life and the next. The first act of obedience for the believer after salvation is to identify publicly with the Savior’s death, burial and resurrection through water baptism by immersion.
Then a believer is received into fellowship with the local Body of Christ and may partake in the Lord’s Supper, exercise their spiritual gifts and minister to the saints. The New Testament pattern has always been salvation, baptism and then reception into fellowship and partaking in the Holy ordinances of the faith. No Christian is perfect and sadly we all continue to sin while we are in this world.
However, we are no longer slaves to sin because Christ has set us free by breaking the chains that held us captive. We become new creations in Christ Jesus able to pursue righteousness being sanctified day by day by the power of the Holy Spirit. As we grow into the likeness of our Lord we become more effective witnesses in the spreading of the Gospel and become capable of expressing true sacrificial love towards family, friends and even our enemies. Church has been, is now, and always will be a place where God’s people gather to humbly exalt and worship their Father in Heaven, praise and thank their Savior Jesus Christ and embrace the Holy Spirit who comforts, instructs and dwells within them.
We are currently preaching verse by verse through the Gospel of Luke. Please join us as we grow in the knowledge and love of the Lord Jesus Christ. You will be greeted warmly with sincere joy. Ask to speak to an elder when you arrive. If you already have a home church but desire more time in God's Word then our informal Thursday night Bible study at 7:10 P.M. may be a blessing to you. We are currently studying Romans and Matthew. All are welcome! See the “worship times” page and the “calendar” page for more details.
